Provide both tennis and pickleball courts
The courts at Rideout serve as an important venue. Not only do I play tennis there, I’ve tried playing pickleball there, too.
I am a 70-year-old Concordian who still plays weekly competitive tennis as well as social tennis. For the latter, the courts at Rideout serve as an important venue.
Not only do I play tennis there, I’ve tried playing pickleball there, too. But I found that it would ruin my tennis strokes. However, many, including those who can no longer play tennis, love it. Maybe for me, too, in the future.
It is possible for me to walk to the Rideout Courts and for others in West Acton Village area to be able to walk or bike to these courts for both tennis and pickleball. Not only is it healthier for us, it also contributes to lowering Acton’s carbon footprint and promotes stronger localized community interactions and activities. These are all in line with the Envision Acton plan, as well.
It is very important that the public courts at Rideout serve the needs of both sports. In fact, I believe that all public courts serve both sports and thus provide all the benefits mentioned above. So please resurface the Rideout courts with a mixture of both. And do the same for other courts throughout the various Acton neighborhoods.
For the Rideout courts specifically, I prefer Option 1. Unfortunately, due to a funeral abroad, I was unable to attend the meeting on the 21st. I would have expressed this position there. May it be taken into account through this letter.
