A record 252 local athletes joined elite runners from a dozen countries at Emerson Park on June 7 for the 15th annual Adrian Martinez Classic.

The event, which honors the champion miler from Acton-Carlisle High School who died of cardiac arrest at age 22, raises funds for the CCHS cross country and track and field teams and a scholarship in Martinez’s name.

Two meet records were broken this year: Ryan Tobin, an NYU graduate, ran a 4:01 in the community mile, an open event for non-elite runners; and Andrew Casey, a junior at the University of Wisconsin, ran a 1:45 in the high-performance men’s 800 meters.

Local runners competed in 11 events, including an 8-and-under single lap and a family 4×400 meter relay.
