Revolutionary War dead deserve a suitable memorial in Acton
It is time we recognize their names and their sacrifice with an appropriate monument in Monument Square.
Monument Square derives its name from the many monuments that honor Concordians who died fighting for our country. Missing among all these monuments is any recognition of those who died in the Revolutionary War, the war that allowed for the creation of our country.
Because of the exceptional work of historian Beth van Duzer, we can now name those Acton patriots who gave the ultimate sacrifice. (She may uncover additional names.) It is time we recognize their names and their sacrifice with an appropriate monument in Monument Square. Whether this monument should be on the Monument Square oval or Parcel 1693, which is also town-owned land, should be part of a larger, townwide discussion.
