Sound off to the Select Board about dumping on wetlands

Questions must be asked by the Select Board about the reasons for not following the laws regarding environmental permits.

It is inconceivable that the town manager signed an agreement with a contractor, who was working on a project in Acton, to allow his company to dump huge piles of gravel/fill in Acton’s wetlands, and the wetland buffer zones behind the gas station at the rotary at entirely no cost to him. How was it possible that Acton didn’t issue the correct environmental permits, allowing legitimate stockpiling of the material while keeping the wetland resource area safe?

Acton could have leased this land for the three-plus years of usage (2022 to 2026) with proper oversight and made money for our town’s needs, such as keeping the library open on Sundays or funding the bathroom facilities at the high school playing fields.

Questions must be asked by the Select Board about the reasons for not following the laws regarding environmental permits. After all, these are laws, not suggestions. If, as the town manager has been quoted as saying, Acton was being “kind” by letting the contractor use our wetland areas for business purposes, I would like to have seen an article in The Acton Bridge extolling our generosity, including a thank-you from the contractor and the state for having saved them the money earmarked for gravel and fill stockpiling.

Please email the Select Board to express your concerns on how this matter has been mishandled, and to remind them they are ultimately in charge.
