Support Dean Banfield ‘for responsible stewardship’

Dean recognizes that while Acton values its historic past, it must actively engage in the challenges of the 21st century.

Effective local government depends on thoughtful, collaborative decision‑making; a deep understanding of Acton’s financial and infrastructure picture; and a commitment to public service. Dean Banfield will bring all of these qualities to the Select Board.

I’ve been told that solid experience on key committees, like the Finance Committee, provides essential insight into how our town government functions. The kind of experience Dean brings — as a leader of technology teams, a parent, a Finance Committee member, and a volunteer for those in need — are key to effective work as a Select Board member.

As chair of the Solar Task Force, Dean helped develop the town’s solar production plan and encouraged the Light Board to advance projects to expand the town’s solar capacity. As a result, Acton has moved forward toward its sustainability goals. In my view, that’s action, not just talk.

Acton is confronted with new capital requirements to replace aging town facilities and infrastructure and future capital costs that will arise in connection with the town’s growth and change. It will take more than enthusiasm to tackle Acton’s fiscal challenges while maintaining the vitality of Acton’s civic life and the important and excellent public services and facilities that residents expect. Dean will bring a voice for responsible stewardship of taxpayer resources and an experienced understanding of the tradeoffs involved in municipal decision‑making to the Select Board.

Dean recognizes that while Acton values its historic past, it cannot be “frozen in time” and must actively engage in the challenges of the 21st century. I don’t expect to agree with Dean on every issue. However, he has committed to “an environment of openness to fresh thinking and creative expression” and to “listen to all voices … to strengthen Acton’s civic and community life.”

Join me in voting for Dean Banfield.
