Teamwork, empathy drive student success

We have been called “a small but relentless group” that attacks the schools. But can we please step back a bit?

I am frankly pretty tired of letters to the editor in The Acton Bridge and private newsletters to current school parents that dismiss Concordians like me — gray-haired retirees without children in the Acton schools.

We have been called “a small but relentless group” that attacks the schools.

But can we please step back a bit?

We gray-haired retirees are parents of Acton schoolchildren who have benefited from the Acton schools and have important advice for current parents, School Committee members, and the school administration about what propelled our children’s life success.

It was NOT academics.

Rather the student groups and team sports that drove the core sense of belonging, self-worth and empowerment.

That is, empathy for others and teamwork.

We all know this — in the workaday world, we rarely succeed as “sole actors.” Rather, we all work within teams to get important jobs done.

At CCHS, teamwork and student empathy demands creating a culture of empowerment for Jewish students, students of color, and LGBTQ students. With this foundation of empathy and team empowerment, CCHS students can achieve much.

Our world needs more CCHS students who are empowered citizens and leaders.
