To mark Sun Day, let’s prioritize efforts toward renewable energy

On September 21, remember no solar project is too small to count in the critically important fight against climate change.

As a Acton resident, in celebration of Sun Day, I want to share with you the status of an innovative clean energy solar project being undertaken by the Audubon Hill North Condominium Association of Acton. This summer, the board and members of the condominium association approved proceeding with a solar project that will invest over $275,000 and use the rooftops of the eight garages on site to generate an estimated production of 105,145 kWh of clean energy each year.

As planned, this project will provide free common area electricity, pay for debt service, add credits to the electric bills of all 30 unit owners of the condominium, and add money to the association’s reserve account to help fund needed maintenance and capital improvement projects.

Most importantly, by building this solar power capacity we are reducing our carbon footprint and making a contribution toward stopping climate change. This could be a good case study for other condominium associations in Acton to study and possibly pursue.

On September 21, as Acton comes together to celebrate the power of renewable energy, remember no solar project is too small to count in the critically important fight against climate change. Our biosphere is a global ecosystem composed of living organisms (biota) and the abiotic (non-living) factors from which they derive energy and nutrients.

From hurricanes to extensive wildfires to the deadening of coral in our seas, Mother Earth has been trying to tell us her biosphere is challenged with the level of carbon in the atmosphere. Let’s all do our part to embrace renewable energy to minimize global warming.
