Vote ‘yes’ on warrant to expand Newbury Court
For all those Acton residents who would like to join our community one day, please support us.
People move to continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) for many reasons. My husband and I moved to Newbury Court from Lexington in May 2021, amongst the first to arrive once the Covid restrictions were lifted.
Long before we knew we would be moving (pre-Covid), we attended many workshops, support groups, lectures, Rock Steady Boxing, and physical therapy at Newbury Court, because my husband had Parkinson’s disease and he was invited to join all the support activities that were offered.
Once we moved, we continued to live independently (as we had in our house) with the help of Newbury Court and other support staff, as my husband needed 24/7 care at that point. This would not have been possible at any of the other CCRCs we looked at during our search.
Unfortunately, 10 days after our arrival, my husband passed away unexpectedly. Naturally I was devastated, and at first I felt completely alone, until I realized all I needed was to go out into my hallway to be amongst many caring residents, who I did not know, but it did not matter. I wasn’t alone like I would have been if I was still in my house in Lexington.
Newbury Court is the only CCRC in Acton, and we would like to expand our community across the street so that more residents from Acton and nearby towns can join us, no matter the reason for doing so. Our current campus is completely built out and cannot be expanded. For all those Acton residents who would like to join our community one day, please support us by attending the upcoming Town Meeting and voting in favor of our rezoning warrant article.
