Walden saunter spurs musings on Thoreau

Imagine what it was like to wander these wild woods back in his time, when the buzz of today’s frenetic pace was not part of this world.

I was on my way back to this beloved shrine — gentle, peaceful, and surrounded by God; always calming and serene, where one could hear their heart beat.

The water shone like a mirror, smooth and gleaming with an occasional blip from one of its inhabitants. Walden Pond never disappointed, and just the thought of Henry David once dwelling in this magical place enhanced the experience.

Imagine what it was like to wander these wild woods back in his time, when the noise, whirling, and buzz of today’s frenetic pace was not part of this precious and tranquil world of his. Did these woods serve as a catalyst for his prolific work? My mind was busy with questions that only Mr. Thoreau himself could have answered. But like a curious child, I let my imagination run wild.

The history of this glorious place is vast. The winding path around the pond is a gateway to where Thoreau rested for a bit while he exercised his experiment in living his most simple existence with only the bare necessities — perhaps a gentle reminder to assess our own lives.

As I meandered these sacred grounds, I felt a sense of freedom in my body and mind, a walk through time imagining Thoreau treading this very path, perhaps on his daily sojourn.

Did he leave his precious respite to venture into town to replenish? What would it be like to have known him and then take his lead? How much wisdom could we have gleaned from this extraordinary man who would live on vibrantly for generations to come? Is simplicity the answer to attaining peace?

So many sensations come to mind. However, the most vibrant one would linger forever. I remain an awestruck witness to one of the most beautiful and holy places on earth … in my own backyard.
