‘Wicked’ author was wicked helpful

I am writing to The Acton Bridge because it was nice to see the article on Mr. Maguire in last week’s issue.

My name is Josie Gillick, and I am a 10-year-old fourth grader at Willard Elementary School. My whole grade is doing a project where each of us is creating a magazine. In my class, we can pick any topic to do our magazines on. I chose to do “Wicked,” as in the book, the play, and the movie which just recently came out.

In our magazines, we have to do an interview. I thought it would be cool to interview the author and creator of “Wicked,” Gregory Maguire. I thought it would be a long shot, but I was so wrong. He emailed me back. He told me to email the questions I had for him, and he would answer.

Some people might ask, “How did you do it?” I wrote him a letter and handed it to an employee at The Acton Bookshop. She promised to give it to him the next time he came to the bookshop. He got our email, because we put my mom’s email and phone number in the letter. When he got back to me, I started working on eight questions at school. My teacher, Mr. Smith, helped me and was so happy when he found out I got a reply. Thank you for helping me with my interview, Mr. Maguire.

I am writing to The Acton Bridge because it was nice to see the article on Mr. Maguire in last week’s issue. What a coincidence since I heard from him only two weeks ago. I think everyone in Acton should know what a nice man he is and how he took the time to help me with my project.
