Williams: Challenges lie ahead post-election
I am aware that all but one of our sitting School Committee members endorsed other candidates.
Our campaign taught me about our community and how we want it to prosper. I learned that we all want a Acton that sees, embraces, and uplifts all.
I once said it was never just about the name on a building. Rather, it is about what happens in the classroom each and every day.
Acton turned out in impressive numbers and stood up to continue the work of building a Acton for All. I thank Alexa Anderson for her years of dedication to our community. I congratulate Sandeep Pisharody on his election. I look forward to working with him and the School Committee to support our schools and our community.
We have work to do to meet all our students where they are. To give them the support they need to achieve, and the challenge they need to excel.
We have work to do closing our proficiency gaps by providing our educators the time and tools they need to succeed.
We have to better communicate our successes and challenges, and to actively listen to our community’s needs and concerns, and then utilize that information to lead thoughtfully.
I am mindful that the work ahead may prove challenging. I am aware that all but one of our sitting School Committee members endorsed other candidates, and that two of my future colleagues actively campaigned against my election.
Leadership challenges us to build relationships in order to deliver for our students and their families. I commit to reaching out to each committee member in the days ahead so that we can meet and build relationships that ensure our term together is one of constructive collaboration for the benefit of our students, our schools, and our community.
Thank you for your support. I wish you all my best.
