Opinion

Without delay, Acton should replace Schools Superintendent Laurie Hunter

I urge the town manager and those with the authority to make a leadership change to do so quickly.

I have been reading about the growing number of antisemitic and racist issues in the Acton school system for the past several years and assumed responsible leadership from the Select Board and School Committee and school administration would take it seriously, investigate it, and resolve it.

Obviously, this is not the case. I am sick to death of this problem not just lingering but actually worsening and can only imagine the pain borne by those affected by it.

Concordians started to wake up when two new School Committee members were elected. But what I long suspected and is now abundantly clear is that the superintendent of schools herself either doesn’t care about this issue or is incapable of resolving it. Our schools should reflect and teach our community values, and I refuse to believe that the student behavior we are seeing modeled now is what Acton has become.

I urge the town manager and those with the authority to make a leadership change to do so quickly. Pay whatever it costs to terminate Dr. Laurie Hunter’s contract. It will be far less than the cost of letting this travesty and the damage it is causing to our students, their families, and our community continue.
